Mountain, forest, and purple splendor from the Ice Age
In the heart of Overijssel, you'll find Sallandse Heuvelrug & Twents Reggedal. An area that is part of a family of National Parks in the Netherlands. Formed when a large mass of ice pushed the ground aside, allowing nature lovers today to enjoy a magical view from 16 hills. Discover the unique landscape and the charming river Regge that meanders through it.

Balance and Experience
Moraine ridges, glacial erratics, and burial mounds tell us the stories of our ancestors. Similarly, the names of fields refer to our family names. The connection between farmer, village, and landscape goes back centuries here. This is clearly visible in the farmland with cows, fields, and meadows, the estates, lively village centers, and no less than five nature areas of European top quality. Year-round, various parties work hard to preserve and make use of nature. The right balance in this ensures that nature develops and that people and animals can enjoy this splendor for a long time to come.

The Disappeared Landscape
From Rijssen at Havezate de Oosterhof, Kasteellaan 1, junction 89, starts a beautiful cycling route through 'the vanished landscape'. Enjoy special places and stories about the (vanished) landscape in the Sallandse Heuvelrug & Twents Reggedal area. The stories are based on the Landscape Biography that has been made about this area. Watch vlogs and listen to audio fragments that explain the landscape along the way.

A hidden bird diversity?
The Sallandse Heuvelrug & Twents Reggedal area can count itself rich when it comes to birds. A great diversity of birds either visit or enjoy staying in this region. It is also the only place in the Netherlands where the black grouse occurs. Unfortunately, it is threatened with extinction, and you will not easily encounter them, partly due to their shy nature. You are more likely to see the tree pipit. This bird flies a few meters up while singing and then flutters down like a kind of parachute. A remarkable sight. If you venture out at dusk, evening, or night, the nightjar is particularly active. During its search for food, it catches large insects like the moth. If you visit the nature reserve in winter, you can also find great grey shrikes on the heath. They impale captured mice on a thorn or piece of barbed wire for a meal at a later time. A bit gruesome perhaps, but also special and a natural 'way of life' moment to witness.
