Under the commission of the National Parks Bureau, Bureau Wing is mapping the governance of national parks in the Netherlands. The goal is to show the different ways national parks are managed and which models work well in practice. We also aim to gain insight into the processes and systems for leading, managing, and supervising national parks.
The National Parks Bureau fulfills a need among various parks to gain more insight into the choices parks make regarding governance models and the lessons learned in practice. After the document is delivered at the end of this year, a knowledge session on this topic will take place for the parks.
Customization
Each park has its own history, dynamics, and collaboration culture, which requires customization. The result is not a standard model, but an overview of practical models and the experiences parks have had with them. With the results, the National Parks Bureau aims to stimulate discussion both within and between parks. What is applicable, and what fits the unique situation of a specific park?
Inspiration Document
Four steps are taken to create the inspiration document: a questionnaire, document analysis, an expert session, and in-depth phone rounds. The ultimate result is an inspiration document with an overview of governance forms, practical examples, and insights that the parks can benefit from. On September 1st, an expert group reviewed the interim results and provided input for the continuation. Several in-depth discussions will follow in the coming period.
