Where nature connects city and sea
Along the North Sea, between beach and inland, seamlessly interwoven with large cities, lies Hollandse Duinen National Park. The Netherlands owes its existence to these dynamic dunes. This is the place where the sea meets the land and nature meets the city. In the heart of the most densely populated area of the Netherlands, you can spot a seal and shop in characteristic little shops within a short distance. The mix of natural and man-made landscapes makes the area delightfully 'Dutch'.
Compact versatility that doesn't quickly bore
Sheltered forests, loose dune sand, concrete bunkers, and flower fields. The Holland Dunes are a golden combination of forest and dune. Here you will find peace, space, contemplation, and active exertion.
The possibilities here are endless! With over 4,500 hectares of valuable nature, 46 kilometers of beach, beautiful villages, colorful flower fields, stately estates, numerous interesting museums, and historical buildings, you really get the feeling of freedom. Here you easily learn the art of letting go.

Holland Dunes provide inspiration and energy
Holland Dunes is an area where you can expend your energy and recharge. Local surf schools rent everything you need to brave the waves or sail along the beach. For lovers of old and modern art, there are various museums at a short distance. Get lost near the city and rediscover yourself. Or join a forest or dune ranger who will introduce you to the world of the animals and plants of the dune. Experiences like these emphasize the richness and diversity of this National Park.
A dive into a rich history
Over 5000 years ago, this dune landscape was formed by the rising sea level. It is a place where some parts of Dutch history are still visible and/or tangible. For example, you can find old water towers, small farmlands, beautiful mansions, and remnants of the Atlantikwall; the line of defense that Germany built during World War II to prevent an invasion from the sea.
Dunes are indispensable
Humans play a major role in the development and maintenance of the Holland Dunes. Fishing, bulb cultivation, and agriculture under glass are visible examples of this. The area has grown by seizing unique opportunities and possibilities. This is evident in smart solutions for things like drinking water production and coastal protection, such as the Sand Motor and the hidden parking lots beneath the dunes in Katwijk. The biodiversity of the park is unmatched with more than 6,800 species. The dunes are therefore also indispensable for plants and animals!
