Full moon remains a remarkable natural phenomenon. Do you want to experience this phenomenon in all its glory? A guide from Staatsbosbeheer would gladly take you on a journey through the Drents-Friese Wold National Park. Wander with a small group through the dark forests and a section of drifting sand area. And discover which parts of the environment light up in the moonlight and which animals and birds make their sounds in the evening.
Senses on high alert
During this evening, you can take a special journey from the Drents-Friese Wold Visitor Center. Together with the ranger, you wander through the silence and see how the moonlight beautifully shines through the trees. Due to the intense silence, your senses are on high alert. Prick up your ears and look carefully around you. Maybe a nocturnal animal will cross your path! Wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, and pack a pair of binoculars in your bag.
Note: The journey is not suitable for people with physical disabilities because the route partly goes through drifting sand areas.
Well prepared into the darkness
Want to be well prepared for an outing and have a bite to eat beforehand? Then consider Herberg Het Volle Leven. This inn is a stone's throw from the visitor center and is located in one of the darkest places in the area. Full, fresh, and honest are central here. You can also stay overnight.
If you prefer to stay overnight at a small, atmospheric campsite, choose nature campsite Oude Willem near Appelscha. The spots at the edges of this campsite offer plenty of space. If you're lucky, you might see a roe deer running across the site at dusk or early in the morning. Badgers have even been spotted in the area.
Discover the Ranger's Lab
Do you want to see what the ranger's office looks like? Then take a look in the Ranger's Lab at the visitor center. You'll find bones, feathers, and skulls that the ranger has found during trips in the park, among other things. There are also books, the ranger's work equipment, and various maps. A treasure room and a field station in one. And there's much more to discover...
