Want to discover the beautiful and unpredictable nature of the Biesbosch on your own? This five-day trek takes you exactly where you need to be to miss nothing of this national park and its surroundings. A special app takes you on an exploratory journey through lush willow forests and fields of colorful flowers, but also past the historic harbor of Dordrecht. Keep your binoculars at hand, because you might get up close with a kingfisher, beaver, or the impressive sea or fish eagle.
All-inclusive along nature and culture
For five days, you walk with your own backpack from hotel to hotel, as all accommodations are arranged for you. These range from a converted fort to a safari tent. Four breakfasts and packed lunches are also included, and on the fourth day, you can join for dinner. This way, you can focus on the diverse surroundings and fully immerse yourself in nature and culture.
Straight through the Biesbosch
Each day, you cover between 15 and 20 km. You start in Gorinchem, a charming fortified town you pass through towards the river Merwede. There, you cross by ferry and follow the Liniepad towards the Biesbosch. A surprising route along fortified towns, floodplains, windmills, forest, and expansive farmland. The next day, after a hearty breakfast, you set out into the Brabantse Biesbosch. Along the way, you encounter farms on mounds and meet large grazers and waterfowl. You can view these up close again on the third day, as you have a day off and can choose how to spend it. For example, by swapping your hiking boots for a bike or small boat.
Exploring the Biesbosch on Your Own
From April to October, you can rent an electric whisper boat, rowboat, canoe, kayak, or SUP at the Biesbosch Center Dordrecht. This allows you to explore the Biesbosch on your own. You can plan your route in advance, but you'll also receive a navigation map of the entire area. It also highlights the best spots for an idyllic picnic or walk.
De Kop van 't Land
On the fourth day of the trek, you can put on your hiking boots again, and a small ferry takes you to the Kop van 't Land. Here, you walk through the Nieuwe Dordtse Biesbosch, along a beautiful nature trail lined with reed fields and willow groves. You then arrive in Dordrecht. On the last day, you trek through the water-rich nature of the Hollandse Biesbosch and pass the Biesbosch Visitor Center Dordrecht, highly recommended to step inside. Ultimately, the path along the Wantij River brings you, via Dordrecht's historic harbor, to the train station. There, the trek through the Biesbosch ends.
