Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide has developed an innovative experience map that helps visitors explore the park in a sustainable and organized manner. The map brings together all walking trails, cycling loops, and mountain bike routes on one platform. Additionally, visitors can find practical information about park accessibility, with a focus on sustainable transport options such as train, bus, and bike. Finally, the map provides information on food and drink establishments, accommodation options, and other tourist facilities.
The digital map is available via smartphone or computer; a separate app is not needed. Once loaded, the map is usable offline. This is ideal for use in nature. During your walk, you can immediately see where you are. The map is accessible via the Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide website or through QR codes on the welcome boards in the park.
Sustainable transport
'This map fits within the sustainability goals of the Grenspark,' says Mattias Van den Bergh, project coordinator at Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide. 'The information about sustainable transport encourages visitors to come to the park in an environmentally friendly way. At the same time, the map offers a clear overview of all experiences in the area. This allows us to better spread visitor flows and give nature more breathing space.
MONA
This development is part of the European-supported Interreg project MONA, which focuses on sustainable recreation and mobility solutions in nature areas. Lukas Jacobs, chairman of Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide: 'The Interreg project MONA is of great importance for Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide. It gives us the opportunity to strengthen the area's presence. We are working on a clearer branding, with recognizable gateways and a more visible profile in the streetscape. Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide is a leading nature area, and that should be visible from the moment visitors enter the area. In addition, through MONA, we are actively promoting sustainable mobility, so that visitor experience and nature conservation go hand in hand. As Grenspark Kalmthoutse Heide, we have a huge asset with the various stations at a short distance.'
