As a guide, Mary is often busy conveying the relaxation and the experience of the Peel to visitors of the Peel. Together with her partner Jacqueline Hendriks, she organizes the popular Full Moon walks. So what is the secret to the success of these walks? Mary: "It is a combination of various ingredients. The walks are steeped in mystery and wonder. The participants' own experiences seem to be etched in the silhouettes by the Plaggenhut. In short: You have to experience it yourself, there in the moonlight."
Another ingredient that makes the Groote Peel so special is the people involved with the park: "the good folks." Mary: "The people are extremely kind and friendly, and there is a fantastic (volunteer) team available. Since the Peel is purely intended for walkers, every visitor gets all the time and space to enjoy without worries. You can hear an unparalleled silence there that can be heard nowhere else."
Beagle
Mary has to believe that her beagle is also a huge Peel lover. Together, they walk almost every day 6 to 7 kilometers. Over the years, they've discovered so many beautiful spots that Mary can hardly name just one. However, the heart of the Peel, especially on the Defensiedijk, is very special because of everything she experiences during the walks there.
Mary's greatest wish for the Peel is: “The preservation of this beautiful area for the children of our children. The nature, but also the culture. That the landmarks may remain.” Mary's enthusiasm is contagious; during the interview, I've already signed up for one of the walks: You can taste for yourself the ingredients of the Peel, and it leaves you wanting more.
