Seen through the eyes of the sea painters of the past and contemporary photographers? Then download the new app ‘Masterpiece Dutch Landscape’ with unique cycling routes like the Nieuw Land audio route. This is approximately 35 km long, where you mostly cycle on separate bike paths.
The audio tour Nieuw Land is the first in the series Masterpiece Dutch Landscape, developed for the theme year Ode to the Landscape. You can download the app in the Google Play Store or App Store. In the coming months, five more audio tours will follow, each featuring a different national park. In this way, we are putting the Dutch national parks in the spotlight this year. Both the beauty and contemporary issues of management and development are discussed during these special cycling routes.
Cycling through Nieuw Land National Park, you will hear more about the history of the Zuiderzee and the IJsselmeerpolders. And thus also the story of the threatening water and how the Dutch have learned to live with this powerful element. The route takes you over the Knardijk to the Oostvaardersdijk at the Markermeer and through the green zones of Lelystad to Hollands Hout in the Oostvaardersplassen. Be surprised along the way by the story of the gullies and channels, dike and clink, new polders, and sunken ships.
The route starts at the Buitencentrum Oostvaardersplassen at Kitsweg 1 in Lelystad. There are eight places where you make a stop during the route. To view paintings and photos in the app and learn more about, among other things, the industrial area that ultimately didn't come to be and how fertile land became beautiful nature. You will also get acquainted with the young Flevoland, seen through the eyes of maritime painters Bakhuizen and Schotel and contemporary photographers like Ger Dekkers, Wout Berger, and Witho Worms.
