Do you want to discover the story of the Schoorlse Duinen while cycling?

Seen through the eyes of painters and contemporary landscape photographer Kim Boske? Then download the new app ‘Masterpiece Dutch Landscape’ with unique cycling routes like the Schoorlse Duinen audio route. This includes two routes: one of 28 kilometers and one of 22 kilometers.

Masterpiece Dutch Landscape

The audio route Schoorlse Duinen is the second in the series Masterpiece Dutch Landscape, developed for the theme year Ode to the Landscape. You can download the app in the Google Play Store or App Store. In the coming months, four more audio routes will follow, each featuring a different national park or nature reserve. In this way, we are putting the Dutch national parks in the spotlight this year. Both the beauty and contemporary issues concerning management and development are addressed during these special cycling routes.

The route

The Schoorlse Duinen is not a national park, but it is a very special coastal and dune area. Nowhere else in the Netherlands are the dunes as wide and as high as here. Hop on your bike and learn more during this audio route about sand that moved to the city, about wandering dunes, about polders and lost villages but also about art. Artworks by, among others, Salomon van Ruysdael and his nephew Jacob van Ruisdael, the painters of the Bergense School, and the contemporary landscape photographer Kim Boske play an important role during this route.

The route starts at Buitencentrum Schoorlse Duinen at Oorsprongweg 1 Schoorl, where you can choose between two different routes. The North route to Petten is 28 kilometers and the South route to Bergen is 22 kilometers. You cycle almost everywhere from junction to junction over separate bike paths. Along the way, you make several stops to view paintings and photos in the app and to learn more about this special art and dune area.
